Pre-Publication Review

According to the National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS), those of us who had access to classified or sensitive information are required to protect that information for the rest of our lives.

There is no expiration date on the oath we signed when we got our clearances. This is a quote from the NSA/CSS website:

All NSA/CSS affiliates (past or present) are responsible for forwarding for review any information intended for public disclosure which is or may be based on protected information gained while associated with NSA/CSS.

The Naval Security Group OP-20-G is, or was, an affiliate so almost every story or article printed in CRYPTOLOG is included.

The CRYPTOLOG staff routinely reviews articles and stories submitted for publication and, if necessary, we forward those to the NSA/CSS Pre-Publication Review department for their review and approval. This can be a lengthy process, however, taking 30 to 90 days or more. If you wish to publish an article or story in CRYPTOLOG and you are not sure about the sensitivity of the material, you may submit your work directly for pre-publication review to:
