Charleston Wrapup
The theme was “Charleston’s for You in ’22” and almost 270 members of the Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association agreed, deciding it was again time to meet their friends and colleagues for five days of touring, eating and sharing old times at the 53rd annual NCVA reunion.
Centered at the North Charleston Marriott, attendees saw the sights of this historic colonial city. A large group toured the USS YORKTOWN and the other attractions at Patriots Point. A large number marveled at the Confederate submarine HUNLEY. Others toured the harbor, the city center, or enjoyed a round of golf at the Wrenwoods Club in the annual golf tournament. The Red White and Navy spouses held their annual high tea, and of course everyone sampled the many restaurants in and around the area.
Saturday morning, it was time to pass the torch to a new Executive Director, Penny Tardona, thank Bill Hickey for ten years of service, and recognize the 2022 Commander U.S. Tenth Fleet Awards: the CAPT Joseph Rochefort Award, the On the Roof Gang Awards, and the Cryptologic Support Excellence Awards. Attendees then heard a fairly detailed brief on current CT activities at NSA from CAPT Colin Chin.
Saturday night was the banquet, led off by the traditional presentation of the colors and two bell ceremony, after which attendees received an invitation to the 2023 U.S. NCVA Reunion in Milwaukee, followed by in inspirational address from CAPT Dom Lovello, Commanding Officer of Navy Information Operations Command, Georgia. (Both presentations can be seen on the U.S. NCVA Facebook page.)
