U.S. Navy cryptologists play important roles in the history and defense of our nation. U.S. Navy communications personnel are critical to the protection of our own communications through the discipline of cryptography.

However, U.S. Navy cryptology is better known today due to its role in the Pacific Theater during World War II from shore establishments, such as Stations Caste and Hypo, and deployed elements with the 3rd and 5th Fleets.
