This category offers reviewed, unclassified documents about U.S. Navy shipboard Cryptologic Support Elements (CSEs).
This article, authored by CAPT William D. O’Neil (USNR) and published in U.S. Naval Institute Proceedings in February 1982, describes the unclassified operation of a U.S. Navy ship—the USS FAIRFAX COUNTY (LST 1193)—in the Barents Sea in the spring of 1981.
One thing to note is that the presence of the NAVSECGRU CSE and its personnel are not mentioned. Regardless, this is a very interesting article about the mission and its predecessors.
Rick Kerr (CTT2 USN, K8CTT) provided this record of the history of USS OXFORD (AGTR-1) in 1968 – 1969, when she and her crew were deployed for “54 continuous days in the Vietnam combat zone”.
Rick, a veteran of NSGA Toddendorf FRG and ORE Division, USS OXFORD, sought the data to support a VA claim and engaged Westmoreland Research to help.
