Gateway Chapter Reunion
The 15th annual Gateway Chapter NCVA reunion was held 10-12 September 2021 in Perryville, Missouri. We had 18 attendees this year from Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Ohio. Thanks to everyone for attending and thanks to Sam Thompson for hosting the reunion once again.
Friday afternoon and evening included registration, a social gathering in the hotel reception area, sightseeing in Perryville, and dinner at local restaurants. Saturday morning was the annual chapter meeting at the hotel.
We started the meeting with a moment of silence for our former Chapter President, Tom Hanneke, who passed away in January 2021.
Elections were held for three open Board of Directors positions. The chapter Board members for 2021– 2022 are:
- Alan Gann, President
- Patty Thompson, Vice-President
- Sam Thompson, Secretary/Treasurer
- Bob Pate, Director-at-Large #1
- Jerry Powell, Director-at-Large #2
We closed the meeting with a moment of silence in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. We paused to remember the people who perished in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.; the first responders, many of whom gave their lives to save others; and the United States Military who responded to their nation’s call over the last 20 years.
After the meeting and chapter photo, we visited the Perry County Military History Museum for a private tour of this small but quite interesting exhibit. Following lunch, we toured Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial. Later in the afternoon was our chapter dinner at Mary Jane Burgers & Brew in Perryville. The evening concluded with more refreshments at the hotel.
